Case Study : Funeral - Northamptonshire

Russ Sizer • January 7, 2023

The Brief

The short-notice nature of marquee hire for funerals was the case with this enquiry. A local family had beautiful memories of their loved ones, many of which were associated with the family home, a farm. Attendees were travelling far and wide, and the farm's central location in Northamptonshire provided the perfect venue for the funeral.

The Challenges

•        Design and build the marquee solution at short notice to meet the funeral date set by the family

•        The winter timing had to be factored into the design solution

•        Incorporate the marquee alongside the existing barn to maximise space and create the connected feeling of the day

•        Ensure the marquee wouldn't be too obtrusive in the farm courtyard, as the family used this daily

•        Location was on a slope, and the varying levels had to be considered during the build

•        Include existing courtyard bushes inside the marquee

•        Ensure the marquee hire experience was as simple and stress-free as possible

The Solution

•        Through discussion with the family, we gathered the specific needs for the funeral. Zest Marquees designed and provided a 9m x 6m marquee.

•        Rapid response: Time from initial discussion to use at the funeral was less than two weeks

•        The gable end was attached through bespoke fixings to the barn to ensure the marquee was as weatherproof as possible

•        four clear sides were deployed to create a feeling of light in the day

•        The marquee flowed into the barn for the dining and wake activities

Marquee Features

  • Close fitting to the barn entrance
  • Clear window wall panels on four sides to allow for as much light as possible of the course
  • Indirect heating for the barn (fed through the side access point)
  • Tables and chairs for food
  • Bar for a central focal point
  • Lighting throughout the marquee and barn
  • Outside lighting for the garden

Client Testimonial

What a fantastic family & company. Marquee needed for the funeral so not much notice. Danny & Russ both came out almost immediately and helped with the correct choice of tent to be put onto a barn- when it was put up they had covered the gap between tent & top of barn door, strung lights high up in barn, along garden, cut a hole in a sheet of wood for heater hose and to top it off the night before dropped off several bottles with lights in ( used at their own family party) as amazon had let me down! 100% recommend ZEST Marquees

Events aren’t what they used to be. Gone are the days when booking a room, serving a meal, and playing background music were enough. Today, people don’t just attend events.
