How to Cope with Party Planning Stress

Understanding Why It's Stressful

Work/Life Balance - Planning an event or a party is a full time job in itself. It's always a good idea to take a step back before agreeing to take on the task, and really consider whether or not you have the time and energy for it, or if you should look into hiring someone to do it all for you.

Lack of Control - Oftentimes, there will be many people involved in the creation of a great event. There's caterers, florists, waiting staff, marque-hire companies, and all of the companies renting out various equipment that you might need. All in all, that's a lot of people who can cancel, have emergencies, or fail to deliver on the standard that you're looking for.

Guest Requirements - Everyone has different needs, whether they be dietary, accessibility, etc. For the best event, it's important that you take all of these needs into consideration so that as many people can have a good time as possible. That said, sometimes requirements don't line up with the scope or the budget of the event, and keeping track of every person's needs each step of the way can add a large amount to the workload.

Reducing Your Stress

Reconsider Guest Lists - This step requires some future-thinking. You can't necessarily un-invite people, but you can make sure that you're not getting over-zealous with your invites. The more people, the more work, and the more inevitable stress.

Set a Budget - Don't let money add extra stress to your event. Set a strict budget cap, and work to it as closely as you can. Remember to leave a little leeway in case of emergencies!

Make a detailed checklist - Write down every part of the planning process - look up lists online and modify them to your specifications. Once those ticks start adding up, it makes your accomplishments feel much more real.

Ask For Help - Whether it be other people invited to the event, or hired help, you are never fully alone. Sometimes it's not feasible to do everything yourself, and nobody expects you to.
